Education has been the topmost priority of Zakat and Sadaqa Trust Fund since 2010. The Board of Trustees of the Fund believes that education is the surest way of liberating the Ghanaian Ummah from the shackles of poverty and ignorance. Anecdotal research has shown that most Muslim students in Ghana end their educational carrier at the secondary level due to lack of funding. For this reason, the Zakat and Sadaqa Trust Fund as per its legal framework has allocated 70% of its annual collection for education-related sponsorship. Given its priority, the Funding for Education is further classified into Scholarship and education support in other to ensure wider coverage of Muslim student's needs particularly from secondary to tertiary level. The Scholarship opportunity is offered to senior high school graduates who have gained admission into tertiary institutions but are financially constrained to pay tuition fees. On other hand, the education support opportunity is offered to continuing tertiary students who are financially distressed and may drop out of school if not support. Before the introduction of the Free Senior High School, the Fund was used to support students at the secondary level.
